Bought this kit as a trainer kit due to its low price. The quality though was way under par and much worse than I'd expected!
I can't understand how Tamiya can flog such a poor kit since it hardly can't be good for their name?!
I have finished the kit but I learned from this to check each model prior to purchase - and that's how I found scalemates.com. In a way I'm happy I found this place due to a wonky model so in the end I won regardless, but if you want to add a Panther to your collection and aren't strictly into "vintage" kits - stay away from this kit and pick a newer one!

Thanks Patrick! Yes, this seems to be an excellent resource - apart from all the friendly people as well! 🙂

With that new shiny box in one hand and all the reviews in the world through scalemates in the other hand I can survive a trip to my local model shop. After I post what a bought and what I plan to do with it all those people are there to help and answer all your questions.

What a great little kit for getting back into the hobby, or a good starter kit.
It has been many years since I did any modeling and back then I was just starting in life and, well you know, life gets in the way. Did okay as a minimalist, but was trying to do more but held back by not having the tools or the money.
Well I finally got the stuff I need and jumped back in.

I think that quite a few on Scalemates would agree with that sentiment Mortifa. Modelling now is very different from modelling when I was a kid – and much better for it. Welcome back – have fun.

So nearly got this completed. A lot of the old skills are still there, happily. Really enjoying the airbrush I got as it really makes a difference with painting.

Be sure to share some pictures of your progress, the Scalemates community is usually quite happy to help out.

Put up some photos of the progress I have made so far, still got detailing work and try my hand at weathering. May go with a the paint scheme from this over on Panzer V; Panther Ausf.A from the 1st Battalion Panzer Regiment Grossdeutschland, Eastern front, fall 1944.
Not really happy with the fit on some of the parts, and the barrel is a little off... Really need to get some new modeling putty, apparently it dries out over an extended period of time.
