So, I sat down to this tonight. I know this is an old kit. But wow. I am not sure what to do with this. It was clearly meant to be more of a toy. Set up to fire missiles, which I am not doing. But look at the engine "exhaust" area. Its not glued, but thats complete. WTF am I supposed to do with THAT?????? The center hole does have a part that goes there. It just wouldnt stay for the pic. And yes, I have some sanding of joining parts to do. But those gaping holes. I have some ideas, but damn. *sigh* The Moebius kit is a LOT better.

OMG! Do I ever remember this kit. There I was 10 or 11 years old trying to put together a mess of plastic parts that barely fit together! 😜

The join gaps are fairly easy. It's the fact that essentially the engines are just a hole with a square something in them. I need to fill that area. And the same for the cowlings above them.

But yeah, definitely gonna be using some goo and filler.

OK, so some spare parts and some work with plasticard and wallah. Not perfect, but much better. And once i paint and all that, it should look passable.

Bragging points if you know what kit the exhaust parts came from. 😉

I found out the evidently Revell reboxed it with more parts for the exhaust and I think a cockpit. Now I need to find that kit. LOL

OK, small update. I sprayed the top side with Camouflage gray. Its a super light shade an works perfect IMO. Then putty to seal stuff up more. Letting that dry, then sand and see what else I need to do before moving forward.

OK, I am pretty much done with trying to fill gaps at this point. What will be will be. LOL Just gotta gloss coat and detailing.

OK, did a bunch. Got the engine cowlings painted. Weathered it some. Hard to tell in this pic, but it is. LOL I used AK pigments and makeup. 🙂 Guns have the intial paint. Gotta do a bit more to them. Do the decals and it will be done. Next post will be the completed post.

Cool project Donald, and brings back fond memories of the original series from the late 1970's.
This is my favorite version as well and looks much cooler than what appeared in the remake.👍
I acquired the Moebius kit of it in 1/32 scale a while back but haven't put much thought into building it yet as I don't know If I want to attempt to try lighting the large engine recesses or not. Wouldn't know where to begin really 🤔

James, considering this is 1/64 and quite a decent sized model, that 1/32 would be huge! I actually had a plan in my head of how to light this if I wanted to. Would likely do that if I got that kit.

So, the kit decals made me a liar. Another updte...

Well, my dumb butt didnt think to spay the old decals in the kit to keep them from shattering. Soooo, I had to paint the black stripes. *sigh* I DID spray the pentagon markings, so those should work. I have some touch ups to do, but it came out OK I think.

In one final act of rebellion, the pentagon decals decided to shatter even with decal fix sprayed on them. So those markings are not on here. But, I am happy with how it turned out.
