Awesome looking car but kit is lacking in certain areas, as well as certain parts don't fit well. Just a heads up.

Love the colour! Looks like an FJ Holden. I think closer to '59 than '49 though!

This kit does have that grill, although the chrome trim above it does not. It does have an exhaust that might be be thee same or close. Peter might be right.

Going more on body shape Tim. Australian cars were modelled from American equivalents in the sixties and early seventies. It looks very much like a 58 Holden.

Interesting!

Interesting that Holden should follow design questions of a Ford brand. As a side note I find it odd that GM uses localised branding after all these years, while Ford retains a global brand for the most part.

Peter, where can I put in my Order, that is one gorgeous car

Yeah Chaz, it went to SEMA a few years ago and cleaned up. You could start by sending the pic to Tamiya. I gotta admit I would buy a couple!

The reason the two cars look similar, although to me the Mercury looks nothing like an FJ is because when the 48 215 was designed it was because three prototypes were built by hand in 1946 by American and Australian engineers at the General Motors workshop in Detroit. Months of durability and performance testing were undergone in the US before the three prototypes were shipped to Australia

Cars of all eras have similar design features because that's the current trends.
Unless the designer is trying to distinguish their vehicle from the crowd.
They do tend to have similar design lines.
It's a brave manufacturer that bucks the current trend, for example the Ford Edsel.
It paid the price for standing out from the crowd

Peter, Tamiya won't make me a 1:1 scale one, I want to drive it.

Holden are about to cease existing.
Holden was a company that built bodies for General Motors chassis that were imported into Australia.
Ford on the other hand sent everything over except for the wooden components for assembly in Australia.
Holden was able to capitalise on the fact that he was already building bodies for the General Motors chassis and he was able to affiliate with General Motors to form General Motors Holden.
Thus maintaining a relationship with earlier customers with a name already known in Australia.
I'm a Ford man myself.
I like Falcons.
They drive better than Holdens.
I like Holden Monaros but I owned three HQ GTS Monaros and I'd rather look at it than drive it.
I have. '70 XW Falcon sedan, XA Fairmont 2 door, XF Falcon sedan an two AU Falcon sedans and a Ford Courier with a broken gearbox, FN shitbox it is because it's a Mazda

Wilky, I'd disagree, whatever the current trend, I see Ford & GM always having their own Identity, at least on the front. Even the Jelly Mould era in the late 80's & 90's produced significantly different offerings from the two in the same segment.

There is a general similarity across Ford (and former Ford) Brands as their identity was derived from a common design team, such as the current Aston Martin nose to new Ford European vehicles, and the common body structure design of Fords with Volvos, although these are beginning to separate as Volvo develop a new platform, and Ford continues with the Platforms designed for them when they owned the Volvo Development team.

Such a lot of comments without one single picture...I must admit you know how to get attention, Martin. LOL

Actually Lode, I think you'll find that We've just hijacked Martin's project thread to have a discussion about a similar looking concept car from 2007

Martin who? This is an intellectual conversation and certainly don't need Martin Who.

It is very amusing to see this evolving. Even without the Devolver himself.

Yeah, where the bloody hell are ya Devolver?
