Hello, everyone! Started another wooden kit. This time it's a model of pioneering submarine of Narcís Monturiol. The kit is very nice and well detailed, though it should be assembled carefully and slowly. Many parts require heavy pre-shaping due to the flat laser-cut nature. Also, I'm using 0.7mm brass nails from Amati. As you can see, I've installed porthole edgings using them - it was a long process, as it has required the amount of 176 nails 🙂 Still, the assembly is very enjoyable! Also, finished the planking yesterday. The upper part of the tail is rough, cause it will be covered with copper plate.

looking good, do they have the same model, but with interior too? Name rings a bell somehow.

Bret, there was another model, with interior, but from different manufacturer - Anfora, if I remember right.

Jean, merci beaucoup!

An update: The Ictineo II has received several shiny metal parts! Although those look beautiful and really contribute to the overall look, they are a pain, especially that copper tail plate. The problem, you see, is that metal parts here are very thick (it seems, that all metal parts are pre-cut, not PE) and therefore quite rigid. Yep, they are nailed just fine, but only there, where are structural ribs inside - obviously, thin hull planks just can't hold the nails, while the metal part is being stressed by it's own rigid nature. I've pre-bent them as much as I could, but, still, some cyano was required and few nails here and there tend to drop from holes, so I glue them into their places, when I see another one starting to fall out. Also, I've washed the hull with Tamiya brown panel accent color.

An update: addes several details, including the side hatches and frontal lamps. Continuing to work on a propulsion system - made a screw.

certainly a nice thing to see Miquel, but unfortunately it is a replica 🙁..... the real one had a rather ignominious end as it was scrapped after creditors took it from Monturiol when his company run out of money 🙁 🙁
with its air independent propulsion for underwater navigation it was so way ahead of its time..... what a pity

One of the things I enjoy about this site is when an unusual subject pops up like this, there is an opportunity to read about a history that I did not know.

Thanks for your attention towards project, mates! By the way, another update: finally, I've installed the whole propulsion & rudder system on the model - rather sophisticated and difficult to build sub-assembly, but it's surely a gem of the build. Now, the only thing left are the railings!

This submarine could have come straight out of a Jules Vernes novel. The strangest feature in my humble opinion, is the double bladed propeller. Weird! But overall, this is one of a heck of a nice job!
