Once more banned from my airbrush by the kids 🙁
Once more starting an older kit instead of painting.
Can the guy from Airfix who thought it was a good idea to place the pouring stubs at the leading edge of a cerrated wing, please raise his hand? Or the pilots heads? "Mmm I need to choose. Do I put it at the only visible place, the head, or at the feet, which will never be seen again? Heads it is!"
Plain dumb engineering imho.

Martin, I think the butt would be better. Let him sit on his own pouring stub 8D

LOL
kit looking interesting. i am curious what you do with it 🙂
how long did you leave the decals in the window? let's if there is no ill effect later, like being more fragile or something....
this could certainly save some old decals from not ever been used.

Nice work on this old kit. Looking forward to seeing it painted! (If the kids will let you...)

Robbie, so true 😄
Spanjaard, I think a month or two. The backing paper feels fine, we'll see.
Alec, John & Gordon, thanks and welcome. The kit is 30 years old, bought second hand. Some strange design issues, but fit is okay.

Pouring stub. ? Is that also a 'flow gate'. ? Just checking. 🙂
But, in the meantime. 👍
This is something I am going to enjoy watching come together. 👍 🙂

Can't you cuddle a dangerous snake? 😉
Just spent an hour on 4 decals. They're opaque enough, but also thick enought to refuse to conform to the ribbed Wings. Took me so long, I'm quitting decalling for today.

Martin. A tip if I may.
You must have the sponge material from some brassin packing lying around. And if so, this is what I have used to force decals into un even surfaces.
Making sure that the decal is as soft as you can get it, then place the sponge on top of the decal and then squeeze the sponge down on the decal and maintain the pressure for a short while, then carefully lift the sponge away and what you should see is the decal has made it all the way to the bottom of the wing rippled surface.
It can still be done after you have got them to this stage. 🙂 👍

Thanks Kerry, will try. Just did it old-skool: apply decal. Drown in softener and coerce with a brush, repeat and repeat and repeat and..... 🙁
Anyway, not the result I was hoping for. Meanwhile the notoriously thick Tamiya decals formed beautifully on my sabre. Same water, same softener, same brush. Slap me silly and call me Nancy 😉

Sir Cox, you're the first ever winner of the Scalemates-Genius-of-the-week-Gold-Medal. Using a sponge works very well. Still not all edges are level with the detail, but the decal stays in one piece. Brilliant! 👍

Martin. I am so pleased it worked out well for you mate. 👍
I 'discovered the technique when putting the carbon fibre decals on the bikes I was building, and it was out of desperation I did it, wondering if it would work. 🙂
But when it got a good result, I was over the moon. 👍
Glad to pass on the discovery Martin. 🙂

Post a pic of this magical sponge material you use. This encourages me to maybe tackle a JU-52 in the future

I like how you approached the kit. Is really Revell aqua old-school. My Revell paint used to be enamel 🙂
Also, glad to see you sorted out the decals. To me decals are the most unpredictable aspect of building, so I feel your pain. Sometimes they work fine, sometimes they don't. May be I am not sacrificing enough goats to decal gods? 🙂

Robbie. You will see the type of sponge used in image 26. 👍
It is the packing material that usually comes with the 'Brassin' items from Eduard.
In fact, any sort of soft sponge is applicable, as it easily follows any uneven surface and will not stick to the decals.
Even better results can be had if the sponge is damp.👍
Cheers. 🙂

LOL - ok you got me - Here I thought 'Brassin Packing' was some unique down-under thing. Great all the more reason for me to go out and buy Eduard Brassin AM stuff...

Very good work so far, Martin.
Kerry's sponge technique for decals is very good. I'll keep it in mind for the future. Thank you!

Lode, this thing is overdetailed on the wings 😉.
Got the decals in olace, sort of. Added some variation with Tamiya Smoke.

Gave her the measles using Ammo's rainmarks. Let it dry for about 5 minutes and then....
spend an hour trying to blend them in. For some reason the spots wouldn't fade. In the end I had to use a short stiff brush to get a passable result. Thank god/buddha/allah/someone for the gloss layer.

What a passive looking crew. Small wonder the Yanks saved us from an unknown fate.
