AREA 88 : "Break The Big Leg" (B-1A)
1
August 19, 2018I bought this kit for an Area 88 project...2
October 18, 2017But... I had an idea...3
October 19, 2017Here are the two kits that will be taking part in this effort.4
October 19, 2017First, we cut off the back end...5
October 19, 2017Then we cut off a front end,,,6
October 19, 2017Then we tape the hell out of it... and add a little plasticard to cover the gap.7
October 19, 2017Obviously pretty rough... but it already looks an awful lot like the Carreidas 160.8
October 19, 2017Oh, and we also can make one of these... I hear egg planes are all the rage...9
November 7, 2017I think I’m going to have to cheat on the cockpit a bit...10
June 8, 2018I don’t like cheating... so I changed my mind. Let’s switch back to the project I bought this kit for in the first place... Saki’s B-1 bomber from Area 88!11
August 17, 2018Scribed some of the bottom panel lines... this could take a while.12
August 18, 2018Took a break from the panel line scribing to make some corrections to the cockpit.13
August 18, 2018Back at it... more of the panel lines on top done, but still more to go.14
August 19, 2018Moved on to the wings. Why does nothing line up?15
August 19, 2018Getting close, but still more to do.16
August 22, 2018A bit of paint to prime and cover the sanding brings out the defects still to address.17
August 26, 2018Now that the sanding is complete, it’s time to box in the engine nacelles.18
August 26, 2018Lots more sanding here. The walls need to be a lot thinner.19
September 5, 2018Hello Saki and... co-pilot!20
September 5, 2018Almost ready for take off!21
September 18, 2018A few more details and the cockpit’s done.22
September 8, 2018Of course, we need some engines for take off, so I wired up a couple of LEDs.23
September 8, 2018Drilled a few extra holes for the wiring.24
September 8, 2018Yep. It works. Yay!25
September 10, 2018Some primer on... i suddenly start seeing all the defects.26
September 10, 2018The panel lines are a bit rougher than I’d like.27
September 12, 2018Some under shading. I used grey instead of black to lessen the intensity.28
September 12, 2018This will take a couple of coats to get right...29
September 13, 2018Is that white enough? I’m going for a very subtle undershade... but how subtle is too subtle?30
September 16, 2018Alright, all done. Finished painting and then added a coat of Future.31
September 16, 2018Then I picked out all the lint that was stuck in the Future and hen added a light grey panel wash. Just a few decals left to add.32
September 18, 2018And we’re done. Decal on the tail needed a few tries, but I go it.33
September 18, 2018Also added a decal to the base and an on-off button for the afterburner LEDs.34
September 18, 2018Now on the part two... the F-4E Phantom II...
