Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Mates
Here is my little cute Ontos .The Basicpart is almost done(only Hatch and some little things).
It goes on with the rifles.
But on the rifle tubes will be some wire,a time consuming part (kotz 🙂

Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
On my Pershing i made the fault to punch the bolts through the Photoetch on the sideskirts(as told in the instruction). But when you do this ,you can not add an accurate pin wash around the bolts(so i did fake shadows on the underside of the bolts with a brush with Vallejo camo black.Looks OK so far because the weathering will cover a lot ).
On the Ontos i didnt that.I marked the location of the Bolts and punched it out with my 2 Punch and Die sets (hexagonal and round)They both were a Birthdaypresent ,given by myself 🙂
Have a look ,Mates
4 October 2012, 14:40
Dave Flitton
Excellent!! I like the new bolts! You sure are a busy person with all this armor being built. where do you put it all?
4 October 2012, 15:24
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks,Dave :-D
My first vitrine (shrine??) is filled with a sherman(Landing in sicily) ,a churchill AVRE(the Bunker Buster),the Pershing ,and a Maschinenkrieger Melusine.I will soon take a picture.I build very slow ,and when iam on the bench iam much to hastily because i got not so much time. But i think thats a problem to all modellers!
My addiction is to end the whole project (includes figures and dios). Its hard for me to put a modell on a socket and thats it (like the Pershing ,it breaks my heart to see it on this wooden socket and not in a Dio,but i got the "modelling blues "with that tank.Iam glad to made the figures in a way you can look at it!
So after the Ontos ,the Pershing will get his rest where he belongs. In a ruined city somwhere in germany.

Dave Flitton
Excellent work so far. I like watching, it gives me clues on how I can make mine better.
4 October 2012, 15:56
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Ohhuhhh ,Dave .
This is one of the sentences that make me .......Blush 🙂
Partiieennnncceeeeeee (i hate this word)

4 October 2012, 16:18
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Are you working on an Ontos????
4 October 2012, 16:20
Dave Flitton
No, there aren't any kits in 1/72 (so far). I have a few models in 1/35 that I have yet to build, so I look at techiques for both scales.
4 October 2012, 16:22
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Ok,man (sweat)!
So i dont have to rush this thing 🙂
But the deadline for the groupbild is set around december.
But i know that all the members of the groupbild are not the fastest( haha).
No.......only kidding ,dont pace the speed,Mates.
4 October 2012, 16:32
stefan natus

4 October 2012, 16:57
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks ,Stefan
I got a walkaround ,so i "hope" the upper half will be no problem (attention ,rivet counters 🙂
Can it be that we meet on a convention but dont even know it???
4 October 2012, 17:02
Steve Wilson
Great start Markus, nice work on the photo-etch, did the P/E come with the kit or an after-market accessory, or haven't I been paying attention...
4 October 2012, 17:09
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Steve
Both. I use a ET models aftermarket photoetch kit,and there i a little photoetch fret with the academy kit.For the exhaust i used the academy photoetch because the ET one burned up in flames(no joke,i try to heat it ,because it would better bend into a round shape, but the mesh went up into flames). But the academy photoech is equal.
4 October 2012, 17:16
Philip De Keyser
Great result with the etch parts, I'm looking forward to the next steps, keep the pix comming Markus, awesome job my man, greetz Phil
4 October 2012, 17:21

I wasnt ready for this , my first reaction was ........Holy ssshh.....ockolade !!
:-D
4 October 2012, 17:59
Christian Meyerhoff
Believe me, I know this feeling for many many times! You tried the best for an hour and messed it up within some seconds. In those cases an ice cold beer is my first choice.
4 October 2012, 18:03
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thank god it wasnt a try for houres. With the fenders it all went well. But the mesh burned up in flames. If i had spend an hour on the muffler, and all then were for the garbage bin,i throw this thing perhaps out of the window, and if i got a beer drunk it went 100 prozent out of the window! 🙂
4 October 2012, 18:13
Aghis Barberopoulos
I wouldn't expect anything less from Markus...🙂
Great PE details - I am thinking what it will be like once painted...

Frank said: Hi Markus, your "pyramid on tracks" is progressing well. Love it!

Ha! yeah! I see what you mean... One of those Inca/Aztec ones😄
6 October 2012, 07:10
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
I think the us army tried to imitate ......
What was build long ago for 1000 's of years(pyramid) and is still there, can only last a long time.🙂
6 October 2012, 14:13
Steve Wilson
Actually it makes sense for the designers to make it that shape for the strength value alone...
6 October 2012, 17:35
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thats right,Steve.A very steep(?) angle to repel bullets and other ammo i think.
But the space inside must be horrible.Like in a sardine can.Loud,smelly,tight.
6 October 2012, 17:55
Steve Wilson
Especially if one of them farts
6 October 2012, 17:57
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Lol ,Steve
There we have the favourite topic of my son!
6 October 2012, 18:02
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Fart and burp.
The world of a 6 year old boy(besides Lego,Transformers, and to bother his sister ) 🙂
6 October 2012, 18:06
Steve Wilson
It's also my favourite, I love schoolboy humour. Have you heard of this french guy:

7 October 2012, 10:09
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi ,Mates
The Ontos is allready finished with the build. One piece was missing in the Kit (its to place the two lower Barrels.)But the missing pieces are on their way.Meanwhile i will paint the Body ,and do the rest on the upper half later.A additional rack on the left side is added. It is sometimes seen on Original Fotos (although on the right side, but the exhaust is in the way.So i think it looks better on the left side.Artistic freedom 🙂
30 October 2012, 07:52
Philip De Keyser
Looks awesome Markus, can't wait to see it with some paint on, great job so far, it's another master piece from the master himself, greetz Phil
30 October 2012, 17:59

And thanks for the Master but thats a bit to much to receive advance praise (in German its called"Vorschusslorbeeren")
I think tomorrow i begin with the Paint.Good luck to myself 🙂
30 October 2012, 19:31
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi,Mates.
Tamiya XF 58 was sprayed.Again you can see colour modulation (red arrows). But this time its not so obviously as on my Pershing. And it was easier to do as on the Pershing.Next step is painting all the outer stuff like bolts ,jerry cans,Wheel rims etc.
See at Pic 16
31 October 2012, 10:50
Steve Wilson

Hi Markus,
hope you are OK now!!
Nice to see the fine details and the entire progress of your work! Thx that you will show the steps of your paint techniques!
The photoetched parts looking soo great, for example the exhaust. Looks so technical!
Amazing work.
4 November 2012, 18:29
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks ,Dirk!
It wasnt that easy with the exhaust.I heat the first mesh and it went up in flames(wirklich, ist einfach verbrutzellt).I want to make it to bend easier. But luck was on my side ,i had a new try with seperately buyed photoetch. All went good.
4 November 2012, 19:08
Dirk Heyer
Nooo, it went up in flames?? Sry, I must laugh a bit, but it sounds like a bad joke!! Omg! Puff and away....... oo

It looks very difficult to bend this little part.

Thanx Mates :-D
The dust and the typical vietnam red dust are oilcolors mixed with enamel. At the running gear its mixed Tamiya (flath earth with orange and red) paints to get the color.

Acki
@Holger: Ich glaube, Markus schaut in den Spiegel und holt sich dabei Anregungen, wie man einen Bausatz RICHTIG altert. 🙂

15 December 2012, 22:45
Andy Bertrand
And I've just seen the tracks. I have to know how you did these...
15 December 2012, 22:46
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Andy and Thanks.
I will cut short how i do the tracks (by the way ...i hate vinyl tracks)
No priming.Sprayed the Vietnam earth color from Tamiya XF52 ,X6,little XF7(mixed).
Dust wtih high diluted XF57.Wash with MIG dark wash.Every track retouched with AK Dark Streaming Grime .2-3 layers of "The Army Painter "matt Varnish from the can (in my eyes the best matt varnish, but each taste is differently) Drybrush with Valleyo Oily Steel.Inside where the wheels run dry brush with Valleyo german camo.Chipping with sponge also with Valleyo German camo.
I think thats it. I sometimes dont know all the steps i have done .I try so long till it fits :-D
Hope that helps a little bit.

9 January 2013, 18:57
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Many thanks ,Christian 😄
With a clear (free) head a lot goes better.
How is your Duster doing ???
9 January 2013, 19:18
Christian Meyerhoff
Well Markus, the Duster is on hold even I bought the Verlinden Crew Set for it. But it`s not forgotten. Think I will finish it within the next two month. Still working on my Henschel 33 D1 Flak Truck. Beside that sometimes I do "Modelling in Scale 1:1" This time it is an NSU Quick Motorcycle from 1948. It was a piece of junk when I got it, but maenwhile it comes out nice. If anyone is interested in restoring old Motorbikes I will post some pictures here. Beside modelling and cooking old Bikes are my alltime favourite hobby. So many things to do, so less time.... But it`s all still fun 🙂
9 January 2013, 19:49
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Wow , cool hobbys (modelling ,cooking ,bikes).
And yes ,so much to do and so less time. 🙂

Markus please forgive me,
but whenever I consider this tank design, it reminds me to Warhammer 40 K!
Believe me, the constructor of this tank was a formerly Games Workshop designer! 😄 😄 😄
I would not be surprised when sitting inside 3 Orcs! 😛 😛

Markus, that's again a wonderful model you're building there, truly fantastic! You can bring such realism in your models with your painting techniques, really cool!
👍

Today and tomorrow the guns will be paintet.
@ Dirk
Yes , the shape of "The Thing" is unique. And you brought me an idea for further projects.

Thanks Mates
I really appreciate it.
But for the basic painting from the gun section it took 5and a half our.Tooooooooooooo long for a demo! 🙂
Perhaps someday if Zimmy dances in a Thong on a Table,Holger does a Flic Flac,Wilfried burps the ABC backwards, and Dirk juggles with two chainsaws.
Then maybe! 😄
Pics will follow.

Thanks Kevin.
The chassis was allready paintet last year (from Pic 20).But the a piece for the gunturret section was missing and i had to reorder it from a Academy. It took 1 and a half month till i get it.
So iam building on "The Thing" almost to long. But the end is near 🙂
I dont want to get the "Modeling Blues "with it.
By the way you did a very exellent job with your Humvee and Bradley.
Top weathering Job.Great ones in a small scale!

How was the academy service? I still remeber the lousy Faller and Tamiya Service.
11 January 2013, 15:42
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Service not to friendly but ok.Academy Europe ordered it fast,so i dont know why it took 1 and a half month.(Perhaps there was a korean Postman with Bike who delivered it first. 🙂

Duncan Cook
sounds better than Tamiya and faller.
Did they send you an confirmation e-mail?
11 January 2013, 16:17
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
No!!
I grab the telephone 2 times, and send 2 mails with the question how the progress is .
Maybe iam a little impatient.

Duncan Cook
I mean after the order. I'm used to it since the Department X servive.
Faller didnÄt sent me a mail at all only a letter after 2 moths that the requested parts are not aviaable and another time they send me a warning that I owe them 15 euros.
And Tamiya don't want to help me. They said only dealers have got a right on spareparts, not the client.

Well. I prefer future. 😉
12 January 2013, 15:47
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Is future realy that better than tamiya clear or other??
Not to get high of course.I mean in use as a varnish! 🙂

Think T. and Future (now called Pledge) are near together... (I'm using both). But I think, it's my opinion, one of the best is Mr. Hobby - Mr. Metal Primer
12 January 2013, 16:29
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks,Mike.I got Mr. Metal ,too.Only used it as a primer for photoetch.Give it a try next time .

I'm using Future at AFVs and Mr. Metal on planes before applying the decals. Future can, even it's drying 48 hours, react with decal softeners. It happens to me two or three times.
