I'll join this ride, Ingo. 👀
Wow, are you modeling the parts in CAD yourself? 👍

Here we go guys. My first project this year.
An Norway Leopard 1A5NO. I decided to build the one, without the armour panels on the turret.
The first thing I noticed about the Revell kit is that the rear storage box and phone box are very simplified with almost no details.
I decided to draw my own parts with many details in the CAD program and then print them.
The NO version have an additional rear light on the side of the phone box, so i build two versions of the phone box.
The parts are keyed for the Revell Leo but can certainly also be used with other kits from MENG, Takom or Hobby Boss. Will test it later on.
I can't start building at the moment, because some things haven't arrived yet. So I will draw some more parts, like the guidance cross, periscopes for hull and turret, the front stowage box for the NO version, commanders optics and maybe EMES 18.

Welcome on board mate. Yes the parts are made by me. I will upload the STL Files later on, so you guys can download and print them yourself. 🙂

Yes, excellent 3D printed parts, what machine are you using? There's the idea of acquiring one floating around in the background so I can put a bit more accuracy into my scratchbuilding. 🤔

Thanks mate. I am using Anycubic Photon Mono SE. I like this printer. Its not big but you have more than enough printing area for parts and figures.

Hi Ingo, yesterday I was looking for figures and vehicles for a dio I want to create around my 1/144 Tu-142 and can see that buying just a few items like this will soon cover the cost of the Anycubic!
Which CAD program are you running? I have Autodesk DWG Trueview installed and run GIMP for all my jpeg manipulation but don't really have a full CAD drawing app.
Any comments and suggestions are really appreciated. 🤔

really interested in the conversation.... i have been thinking on getting a 3D printer myself!
i certainly need to learn a bit of CAD Design first. otherwise i will be just getting a expensive paperweight 😄 I am going to give a try to Blender, i have read that it is quite powerful.... and it is free 🙂
question, does it come with a slicer software, and does it have any cost? some slicer software packages have yearly licenses that can increase a lot the price over the years.....

Hey guys. I am using Autodesk Fusion 360, the noncommercial version is free but have some limitations. The limitations are not so bad, for simple things in model making it is quite enough. I haven't tried Blender yet, but I plan to.
The 3D printer usually comes with simple slicer software from the Manufacturer. I recommend an external software like Chitubox or Lychee Slicer. Is better and you have much more options and features here.
Haven't uploaded the data yet because I want to make a second version of the tool box. The second one will be with the small padlocks. This gives you two versions to choose from. One where you can add the PE padlocks or leave them unlocked and one that already has padlocks. The NO front box is also ready, just like the guide cross.

Thanks, Spanjaard and Ingo, that's all I need to progress my exercise. I saw Autodesk Fusion 360 gets top marks so I'll just need to persevere and find the free version!
I'll keep everyone posted, really looking forward to having this extra dimension available for my diorama creations.

I've been using Blender for my 3D designs. It's very powerful and free software, but be prepared to spend some time learning how to use it. It's not easy to pick up and start using right away. I totally agree on using Chitubox as a slicer though. 😉

I've got an Anycubic Photon S and agree that the 3D printer has really opened up the hobby for me. My goal is to be able to model and print my own 1/35 figure parts. I've done some heads so far using a Blender add-on. I use Blender because I need to learn it for my day job. It has a steep learning curve but is well worth it.

first of all: nice subject (do not forget the broom on the turret. It is essential as the build of Moritz Fentzahn showed 😉 ) and a different camo on the Leo than the well known Nato-Camoflague.
Your 3D printed parts make it painfully clear, that I will have to dig into this subject too. The possibilities are just endless. I only dread the learning curve and time spent until I will get reasonable results.

Hallo Ingo!
Great subject and cool to see those NO specific items printed. I'll be following this one with great interest! Enjoy the build and gaining that printing experience! 👍

Finally found time to upload the photos from my Leopard 1A5NO project here. Building is slow at the moment because of work, so I can only build on weekends.
Base kit is Revell 03320 Leopard 1A5. The new kit is not bad but not great either. I could have used a kit from MENG or Hobby Boss, but removing the mounts for the add-on armour from the turret would be pain the neck. I also had a chance to improve my 3D modeling skills by designing parts myself to replace the simplified parts from the kit. 😁
Tracks are from MENG (SPS-016)
Exhaust grills and some other parts are from Leopard Workshop.
PE parts are from Legend Productions 1A5NO Conversion Set.
Engine grille is from Perfect Scale Modellbau.
Grey parts are 3D prints.
White parts are scratchbuild.
You can find the STL Files for 3D print here:

Finally the model is built and ready for painting. There was a lot to do on the turret, drew all the periscopes myself and printed them out. As you can see on the before and after photos, the kit details were very poor. The same goes for the smoke dischargers and the main gun. These were also 3D drawn and printed by me. Since the MG mount is not visible, I did not improve it this time. I will draw it on my next Leopard 1 model. The tactical broom is of course also included.

Photo etch is so much fun to add on armored vehicles. 🙂 Well worth the upgrade.

Ingo, I was wondering what did you use for the covers? That fabric on top of the machine gun and the back of the turret?

From what I can judge: outstanding work. But of cause it would be nothing without the broom. 😉

Very interesting to compare your build with the one in the May 2022 issue of Military Modelcraft Intl. based on the Meng kit rather than the Revell...

You are welcome guys.
If necessary, I will draw parts myself in 3D for my upcoming projects and make them available to you.
It will be mainly parts for Leopard 1&2 and T-64/T-72/T-80/T-90.
But I also plan to create many parts from the civilian environment for dioramas etc.

Great work on this project! I love all the 3d printed details and the other scratch build stuff. Having designed and printed my own parts I know how much time goes into designing parts, making test-prints and refining the drawings.
