Crab With the Golden Claws (Runabout Boat)
1
October 6, 2021Thanks Thingverse! I've 3D resin printed parts of a runabout!2
October 6, 2021Cleaned up and ready for assembly!3
October 6, 2021Not quite sea-worthy just yet. Scaling down the 3D model left the hull pretty thin in places.4
October 6, 2021Putty to the rescue!5
October 6, 2021This is going to take some sanding. Added in the rear panelling.6
October 6, 2021Also some CA glue to provide some strength.7
October 6, 2021Still a bit rough in places, but we're getting there.8
December 4, 2021First some red paint, then some masking.9
December 7, 2021Left the red stripe masked and painted the underside of the hull black.10
December 7, 2021Top side painted buff/brown... now, about that windscreen. Looks like we have a donor from an Academy jeep.11
December 8, 2021Scratchbuild benches... no problem!12
December 9, 2021Inserted just to make sure they fit. Also getting some ideas for the base.13
December 12, 2021Final painting done. Using a stand-in hull to leave the proper hull-shaped imprint in the silicon "water".14
December 13, 2021Fits like a glove... a coat of Future and we're all set!15

November 7, 2023UPDATE - I"ve learned a lot about 3D printing since this first attempt. In fact, looking at the files I used, I'm surprised they were even able to print at all. Definitely time for a do-over.24
November 11, 2023A MUCH easier fit this time. Nowhere near as much putty needed.25
November 11, 2023Of course, I like to preserve the "soul" of my previous builds, usually by re-using some of the parts. It doesn't hurt that it's also a bit of a shortcut.26
November 16, 2023A little more careful with the masking this time. Arguably a better result.27
