Crab With the Golden Claws (Runabout Boat)

Thanks Thingverse! I've 3D resin printed parts of a runabout! 

Cleaned up and ready for assembly! 

Not quite sea-worthy just yet. Scaling down the 3D model left the hull pretty thin in places. 

Putty to the rescue! 

This is going to take some sanding. Added in the rear panelling. 

Also some CA glue to provide some strength. 

Still a bit rough in places, but we're getting there. 

First some red paint, then some masking. 

Left the red stripe masked and painted the underside of the hull black. 

Top side painted buff/brown... now, about that windscreen. Looks like we have a donor from an Academy jeep. 

Scratchbuild benches... no problem! 

Inserted just to make sure they fit. Also getting some ideas for the base. 

Final painting done. Using a stand-in hull to leave the proper hull-shaped imprint in the silicon "water". 

Fits like a glove... a coat of Future and we're all set! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

UPDATE - I"ve learned a lot about 3D printing since this first attempt. In fact, looking at the files I used, I'm surprised they were even able to print at all. Definitely time for a do-over. 

A MUCH easier fit this time. Nowhere near as much putty needed. 

Of course, I like to preserve the "soul" of my previous builds, usually by re-using some of the parts. It doesn't hurt that it's also a bit of a shortcut. 

A little more careful with the masking this time. Arguably a better result.
