So, back on May 15 I had surgery to fuse my right SI Joint. I have been at a friends house, without stairs to speak of, recovering for the last few weeks. I was just today able to get to the bench for a short bit.
So, my x-rays showing the 4 anchors he put in. Then a few of the cockpit. Nopt going for the detail I would o a different build, The canopy will be closed, the whole point of this is the paint job anyway. LOL

Well, I didnt want to buy stuff for this. Not a detail project. Just do it to have a purple 14 with anime girls. But nooooooo...
So, either I didnt get or lost the clear parts sprue. Great. Found a guy on Ebay who parts out kits. Snagged the last one he had for this kit. 10 more bucks.
Today, I was working on the body. I have never been a huge fan of Hasegawa, and I am not changing that stance. As you can see in the pics, the lovely cross piece they (and other manufacturers put in exhausts for some unknown reason. Seriously, is it going to get crushed packed in your box???) put in has serious flas around it. Removing it, regardless of how careful, resulted in unusable parts. So, cheapest resin exhausts I could find...34.00 more. *bangs head on desk*

Looking good so far! Wish you a fast recovery.
Whenever I am in doubt of spending 30+ on add-ons I compare that amount with an average dine-out and suddenly everything makes perfect sense to rather invest into something that will not be passing your anchors the next morning... 👍

Thanks gents. 🙂
Worked on the intakes and wings. The wings have a horrible design. Not sure what I am gonna do about the notches. Likely just leave them. I sprayed the wings with the purple rattle can I got at Walmart. You can see it compared to the plastic. Im good with this shade. And it didnt come out like a fire hose, so I was pleased.
And a couple pics of the fuselage awaiting the arrival of the clear sprue to finish it up. That should be here Tuesday.

Canopy and exhausts came today. Of course, one of the exhausts had the end of one of the feathers broken off. I found it in the box and managed to reattach it. Ill face that part down. *sigh* Removed the seam in the canopy and other little stuff. Letting glue set and paint dry...

OK, it looks like a 14 now. Wings on just for the pic.
I will say this again. I will NOT be getting another Hasegawa 14. Not unless there are some special markings like this. NOT impressed with this kit at all. The 1/72 was much better IMO. I really hope their F-15 is better. I have a couple of those.

So I finished up the exhausts and moved on to starting decals. I decided to do wings and stabs first as I still need to do some stuff on the body.
THESE DECALS SUCK. They have to be the worst modern decals I have ever worked with. Brittle. They crack and break at the least provocation. They do not fit as well as they should. You can see on the underside of the wing how the light purple stripe doesnt match up. That is one big decal, so I cant cut the carrier film due to the scroll work. Thankfully the parts that dont fit will be hidden when I put them on as it will be swept. I have to go back with white paint and touch up all the spots that they chipped and flaked away. I am giving serious thought to masking and painting the remainder. If I can figure a way to remove the white I have already done and paint that I will.

Im not going to go on about how bad these decals are. But I absolutely could. Ive got them somewhat acceptable. I wont bore you all with a bunch more updates. Just show the finished product. 🙂

Waifus are like updates. They are never boring 😉. Good job with those decals, I am sure it was an uneasy way to apply all of them.

I like the decals. How are you feeling now? Was wondering why I had not seen you around.

OK so I lied again. One more update before finish. Everything done except rear landin gears to be installed, gear bay doors, chin pod and antennae. Then its done.

Good to hear everything went well. Aircraft's looking good too. Really colourful.

It seems that it was a lot of work, but I think worth it in the end! What a crazy set of markings!

Gorgeous - excellent job on the decalling - getting that large anime girl to conform to the contours must have been a chore - but flawless execution. The Hasegawa kit is unfortunately starting to look long on the tooth…

Thank you Capt. It was tedious and a true pain. But in the end, worth it. And yeah, as I said, if I am going to go the non 80.00 kit route, it will be the old Revell from now on.
