This is a combination of SMS Super Silver, Vallejo Model Air Silver and a lot of weathering with the black, dark grey, dark brown and light brown Tamiya panel liners.
Interior painted with a base coat of Tamiya X-17 pink then a few coats of SMS German Sand Yellow. Black parts were brush painted with Tamiya X-18 semi-gloss black. The rear shelf was airbrushed with SMS Gloss Black and then clear coated with Tamiya TS-79 semi-gloss clear.
The flocking colour was not available as is, so I had to create it by combining a series of colours I did have, including brown, white, yellow, red and green.
One of the worst paint jobs I have done. A few factors at play here. It was a muggy 30°C with about 70% humidity, so the paint was drying really quickly and matting out as it did. The paint was coming out of the airbrush a little funny too, like the solvent wasn't mixing with the pigment properly. Used SMS Gloss Black. Didn't realise just how bad the orange peel was until I got it back under the light. Very disappointing.
Didn't want to risk using the same bottle of SMS for this body, so I decided to hit it with a heavy coat of Tamiya TS-14. Still plenty of orange peel. Will see how it dries over the next couple of days. Not feeling great about this. Better than the first attempt though. Should have gone deeper with the sanding.
Wheels done! This was the fifth attempt at them. Stripped them after each failed attempt. The first time I masked them using blu-tack and it lifted the paint as I was removing it. Second time I tried liquid masking tape, but it wouldn't come off and instead started removing the paint. The third time I dropped them while they were wet. The fourth attempt was with Bare Metal Foil on the rims, but I just could not get it to sit or look right. The final attempt I used Tamiya masking tape in the centre, painted the rims silver with Tamiya TS-30 (Silver Leaf) and then removed the tape and hand painted the centre with Tamiya X-18 (Semi-gloss Black).
This is the Tamiya model without the engine. A quick build with a lot of parts already built and others easily snapping into place without glue. This is the least amount of parts I've ever seen in a kit. This one is all about the paint job. I feel like Tamiya really dropped the ball here. The interior doesn't match that of the 1988 Turbo, but rather a terrible combination of all kinds of Porsche models. I have never seen the seats like the ones provided in the kit and cannot find a reference photo to match them from any decade of the 911. The steering wheel is from the 1984 model and the doors and bucket seats are a lazy interpretation of all models combined into one. Albeit, I'll be using photos of the 1988 model to colour match and make up the rest as I go to the best of my knowledge. The exterior matches the 1988. Its just a shame that the spoiler and side skirts are already in place, so there is no work to be done here.
