F4D Skyray VMF-115 Silver Eagles WIP

Dual build with the F-100. 

Parts & aftermarket clipped wings. 

Decals. As the blue star has been done a lot, I'll be doing the VMF-115 Silver Eagles version. 

The very expansive instructions for the folded wings... 

All wings clipped.  

Constructed the seat and the pit.  

Added some more parts to the pit 

No tailsitting allowed. Added 8mm steel ball to the nos 

glued the pit to the front whell well. easier handling when painting 

More surgery was needed. Opening of the airbrakes. 

Airbrake interior added 

Fill pieces for the wings. Filler needed.

Pit primed ammo black 

Added rlm 02 

Decal on the dash. Added some colour as well 

Ammo paint just won’t cover by brush over unprimed plastic. Even the primerss 

Red seat. Yum 

Al of ansudden it looks like a plane when you close the forward fyselage and join it to the main body.  

Tail needed some persuasion to close nicely 

Dry fitting of undercarriage, to glue the several parts in the correct angles 

Intakes glued on, dry fit of canopy. 

Masked the canopy with some Bare Metal Foil I picked up for half price at a closing brick shop. 

Primed the wheels & canopy black. For the canopy this should replicate the inside  

Glued the canopy.  

Managed to prime some parts and the underside white 

And some metal on the wheel hubs and undercarriage.  

Primed the whole thing in white.  

Preshading? 

Upside down! Well, lower half received the first thin coates of white.  

Halfway there.  

And done? 

The exhaust. Not much to bee seen as it’s really deep 

 

 

And the grey done as well. 

THE problem 

Preshaded. Not satisfied with the hard edge on the fuselage 

Toned down the grey, masked for white 

When I finally started painting white, the phone rang, emergency at work. Now it looks like 50 shades if grey instead of white.  

Late in the evening. Hairy brushed the green.  

Wheel wells painted green.  

Wing interior green, airbrakes in red.  

Miscellaneous parts painted red and green.  

Now the whites look similar 

AND the flap is white as well 

First time using Vallejo's liquid mask 

Black on the nose looks ok 

Instead of a gloss layer, I polished the paint.  

 

Halfway there.  

Decals done.  

Air brakes on 

She’s got her legs 

Wheel bays closed 

Hook and rear wheel painted & glued. Exhaust glued in place.  

Wings are on! 

Dirty lady. Not too happy with the stains in the white 

Bare metal foil is so smooth, I pull it from under the paint
