So, this is quite a simple build really, very little to it, but the history behind the real Seafang is interesting. The Spiteful and the naval version, the Seafang were to push the Spitfire design to it's limits, squeezing everything out of the airframe. The Navy chose to go with the Seafury, but SuperMarine put what they had learned from the Seafang into the Attacker, a successful Naval jet fighter.

I could use the decals for the strips, but I think painting them on looks better, it's also good practice for me.

Used Hataka lacquer paint for the first time today. Great colour and went through the airbrush beautifully, almost no tip drying.

From what I've heard about Hataka paints there will be no drying at all!

Very happy with the Hataka Hobby lacquer paints so far. Almost no tip drying on the airbrush. Colours are great too. Some touching up and need to repair the yellow strip under the starboard wing as the masking tape pulled some off.

The repair and stripes (which I missed) put onto the flaps. Hopefully I will get some touch ups done today and get a clear coat on. I also need to drill out the exhaust pipes. She's coming along nicely though.

Thanks guys. It's coming along nicely. Not a fan of Trumpets decals. Quite brittle and wouldn't form to the detail initially. Had to used decal solution 3 times and press in with a cotton bud (Q-Tip for the North Americans).

So……. The carrier film on the Trumpeter decals is thick and is stopping the decals forming to the panel and rivet detail. A little research and a little enamel thinner can remove the film. We'll, no argument there, it dissolved the film…. And the decal and the paint. Good job I only tested on the small underside roundel. Good job I have another.

Bad news, that it dissolved the paint. 🙁
I've seen some guys sanding the decals after applying several layers of gloss coats. Could be an alternative you could try (on a spare part and decal).
Though I didn't try it myself yet.
Looking forward to your progress. 👍
All in all I think it is a nice kit. Built one myself not so long ago.

Yes,I've seen that too, I'm always try something new, so lesson learned, glad I did it on this and not my Phantom. It might be that the thinners I used may have been a little too aggressive. Sanded back now and ready to be repainted.

So I'm calling her done. A nice clean built for the most part. Canopy wasn't the best fit and awkward to pose open. Loved the Hataka lacquer paints, but I did have quite the reaction to the decal solution. It is a lovely looking aircraft, such a shame she never flew operationally.

A real beauty, Gareth.
Paintjob and weathering are very nice. 👍
The base also fits nicely.

Sorry Kyle and Neuling, I didn't see your comments earlier, thank you.

Album info
An interesting project. In real life the Spiteful and the Seafang were the last of the piston Spitfires to be put forward, but neither actually saw service, which makes this a sort of "What If" project. According to BAE Systems Heritage website 13 prototypes & F.31's were built for trials, while 6 F.32's that were fully navalised (folding wings and contra-rotating propeller) were actually build for the Royal Navy, there are no records of them flying in service according to the FAA.
