Started with a base of yellow ochre (vallejo) then a thin layer of raw sienna oil paint, then some blotches van dijcke brown/burnt umber that was smeared open. With a stiff wide brush I made the base structure (straight lines. with a softer wide brush (turned 90° to work with the small side I made some waves in it. Then with a fine round brush i reworked/detailed the nuts in the wood and lastly I applied some darker spots with oilpaint in the middle to simulate the nut...

My first attempt at painting some woodgrain, still not really satisfied, but it looks better then before. I tried to follow this guide: agapemodels.com/2009..mulating-wood-grain/
