METAL SKIN PANIC • MADOX-01, my anime directorial debut in 1987 (34 years ago!), is now getting a HD remaster thanks to AnimEigo and all the crowdfunding backers. When we started on this project, I was a
27 year-old mechanical designer and anime project planner.
I was originally inspired to become a mechanical designer by MATSUMOTO Leiji’s manga, and his Space Battleship Yamato anime, but the greatest inspiration for MADOX was Robert A. Heinlein’s novel Starship Troopers, which I read when I was a senior of high school.
It was not the story of the book, but the concept of powered suits that attracted me. I also fell in love with the powered suit designs displayed on the cover and inside images of the Japanese translation of the novel, which were designed by MIYATAKE Kazutaka and illustrated by KATO Naoyuki
