Applied decals to the instrument panel and did a quick oil wash to add some depth, also used gloss varnish to create a glass effect on the dials. Seems to have worked. Had to hand paint a couple of the dials as there were no decals for them in the kit.

I looked at my photos and realized I painted the horizon bubble upside down. Oops, gonna need to fix that.

Made some progress, got basic paint on this week, and just finished applying decals, once those are done I will do final assembly, and some touch up painting. Had a few misadventures with the little parts that go on the wingtips. I lost one (flew out of my tweezers just before I was going to glue it. Found it 2 days later sitting on my cutting mat (gremlins are responsible I am certain) and glued to the already painted wing which made an absolute mess as I applied far too much glue. So I will need to fix that and get those little parts painted. Should be doing final assembly and first clear coat before washes in the next day or so.

For an airplane that's been powered off it's not unusual for the horizon to be upside down. Also, did they really have colored horizons back then? The airplane is looking great.

I have a reference image of the A6M2 that has a colored horizon from the Air Force Museum, and it is showing blue on top. I would expect to see the same in this aircraft, though I don't have a good photo reference for this particular aircraft. Though I have seen both colored and black and white horizons in the different Zeros.

Well... I had a stupid moment earlier and pretty sure I ruined it. I was cleaning up my oil wash, and in a clueless moment I refilled my mineral spirits cup with Mr. Leveling Thinner... the results were not pretty. Tried to save it once I realized my mistake, but a couple decals got pretty damaged, and some of the oil wash got mingled with thinned clear coat. I might be able to save it but it means a lot heavier weathering than I was planning.
