Ligier JS31 WIP Pictures

Start with the first printed parts. 

Some outdoor work due to the nice weather... sanding and adjusting the cockpit parts 

 

Frontend test 

Last missing part on print parts was the chassis… but next step in July was vacations. 

Special fixation device... 

 

Curbside engine elements, brakes and cockpit ready. Some smaller adjustments to do but I think I can do this easy. 

Rear end assembly test. That's how it should fit and I'm happy with the gearbox. 

 

Next step of fitment test successfully done. 

 

 

 

I tried to create the Air Tunnel Mesh today - wire gauge 0.2mm and wasn't sure if it would work. But I have to say it works and I'm happy with it. It is very close to the Ligier JS31 and will be painted black. I think I can stop here and will not do any further tests. 

 

I checked the decals and everything should fit. I will continue with this version. 

 

Some smaller details at sidepod area. Installation of the small flaps and protection mesh. 

 

Test fit of the new dashboard and steering wheel version.  

 

Updates for Monocoque, engine cowl and cockpit parts. Next step is the front and rear wing. I also want to change the seat, but I can’t find some photos of it. 

 

 

New front wing version, printed, tested and I think that’s it fine. 

 

 

 

Test of the stabilizer bars on the rear axle. 0.45mm brass rod, 0.6mm aluminum tube and a M0.6 nut. It makes a balanced impression and I don't think it's too big. 

 

 

 

Rear Wing Update - additional elements and details 

 

 

 

95% of seatbelts completed, only 3 parts are missing for the seat. 

 

 

 

It's not all painted yet, but I couldn't resist putting it together for a bit.

Test fitment of the vacuum formed windshield - fits and looks not bad to me.

Suspension arms are also finished. I finally added a little 0.4mm brass rod to show the screw connection.

There was a missing element, so I did some scratch building. 

 

Front Suspension finished and final test on the dummy monocoque.

Further progression with the "engine"-gearbox assembly. It is painted and the rear axle has been installed. Next steps will be attaching the brake lines (I had to remove them again) and connecting the cooling lines. 

 

 

 

 

Installation of the oil cooler...  

 

Engine-Gearbox-Rear Suspension finished. All connections are attached and the lines laid. At first, the control unit was only laid on. 

 

 

 

 

 

Nothing new for a few days, but I've been busy with other things. But there are a few minor adjustments. The steering wheel was again covered with a flock, it now looks more realistic. 

 

 

I also worked on the front wing. The end plates are painted and the inside is covered with carbon. The slats were painted bright. There is also carbon on the main body. The smaller elements still have to be covered with carbon. 

 

 

 

Today full carbon floor plate… I don't know if I was slow but it took me more than 5 hours. 

 

 

 

Front wing - I'm still considering coloring the end plates black, as that would actually be the correct specification. 

 

 

 

Rear wing - The stabilizer bar still needs to be painted black, but this will be done after the final clear coat. 

 

 

 

Monocoque - carbon texture and start with some decals. There is a smaller problem with shape of the red-white stripes and I need some new decals… 

 

 

Let's make a mirror out of sheet metal.
