While the Flatpack sits on the bench I started working on the Seafang.
At first I considered building the Gloster Meteor but then I decided for something with less parts to try some things out.
I will cut the wings to build them in the folded position. As the shelf is practically an aircraft carrier saving space is key. 😛
And I will try to paint all markings with my airbrush. Hopefully I get the colours right.

Nice kit, mine is awaiting primer. Fine work so far. I didn't cut the wings.

Thanks Nathan, Robert and Andrea, welcome. 🙂
Some more progress on the cockpit. It is coloured with Mig Dark Green and some Tamiya Nato Black on the consoles.
Also some drybrushing with Aluminium.
Fuselage is put together and the contra rotating propeller is working, not very smoothly but it rotates. 👍
The wings have been cut to display them in the folded position. Next will be some cleaning with alcohol and then pre-shading and colour.
If I can still reach it I will try to fix the front dashboard.

Got some more work done, namely the assembly of the landing gear and priming of all parts.
The areas on the wings and fuselage that will have the stripes on them are painted white to make it easer to spray yellow on them.
To be honest, I am not sure if I did this in the right order. Maybe I should have painted the aircraft first in its blue-greyish colour scheme, mask some areas and do the stripes afterwards.
I'll see how that will turn out.

Looking really good. I think the order of painting you adopted is the rational one (I would do the same - it means😄)

Colouring and gloss coat done.
I did not use the colours that were mentioned in the manual and stuck to my trusty ol' Tamiya acrylics. Sky and Medium Blue
At least to my eye it still looks pretty much like the plane on the painting guide supplied by Trumpeter.
Again, quite a lot of masking on this aircraft. I managed to spray the yellow-black stripes but I won't be able to spray the roundels.
My circle cutter can't cut the radius needed for the red part of the roundel. That means the rest will be done with the decals.
The prop gave me some headache and probably will again, somehow I suck at masking and had to deal with some overspray and I still need to paint the yellow trim on the end of the blades.
Another coat of gloss coat will probably follow, after that decals and finally weathering.

Wish the Seafang went into service. I had an uncle that worked at the RAE who said it would have given the American jets a run for their money.

Done.
Not a bad kit for an intersting aircraft. I love me some contra-rotating propellors (one day you're next, Wyvern).
I am not 100% satisfied with the result, but I tried some things out and gained some experience.
After I finished painting I sealed everything with Tamiya Flat Clear, which I thinned with alcohol. While applying it suddenly some greyish spots appeared on the aircraft.
I am not sure if the airbrush maybe was not clean or if it had anything to do with the polyurethane varnish underneath.
It looks a bit as if a giant bird took a dump on the plane 😠
Not very happy with it but I decided to just proceed with the varnish and let it be. Let's call it a happy accident...
The exhaust stains are heavier than I initially planned but after some heavy oilwash it didn't look that bad anymore.
The roundels, or the decals in general, are very thick but rip easily and the Mark Fit Strong didn't seem to have any effect but I was able to blend them with enough Tamiya Flat Clear.
No silvering and they almost look like they have been painted on. Except for two on the wingtips, there is still some silvering I couldn't reign in.

Thank you very much for your kind words, mates! 🙂
The Wyvern is definitely on my list, already waiting in my stash to be freed from its cage.
Not sure when I will unshakle the beast, though. It's a pretty large aircraft compared to the other 1:48 scale planes I built.
There are many kits I am eager to build and I have far too many kits in my stash, it is really hard to decide what to build next.
Space to display them is also becoming an issue. It already is, to be honest. 🤔

We all know these pains WhiteGlint, I suppose...🙂 ...and usually there are also few started projects to be finished...
