Veeblefitzer Kawasaki Ki-252c Double Dragon

"The craft was powered with two 4,500 hp over-built versions of the old reliable German DB-601 of Bf-109E fame. The prop's were counteracting eight-blade fans, providing 16 blades total....Armament was 7 x 30 mm cannon, mounted 4 in the outer wing and 3 in the inner wing. Also, 2 x 40 mm cannon were mounted behind the engines. "Not to do! Fire fuselage guns too long! Heat build-up will explode engine! Very bad!" The aircraft manual advises."
The design is very overkill, but should be pretty buildable. 

Comparing to the original illustration by Shigeo Koike, the dimensions and needed modifications are visible. 

Quick checking with Sketchup. The red areas show the biggest modifications like middle wing, new elevator, propellers and adding lenght to the frames. 

The 8-blade contrarotating propeller is taken from Fairey Gannet. It still needs new spinner to fit with Ki-252. The model of the new spinner is turned from wood. 

 

First I tried to vacuform the spinner, but it failed. 

The spinner model needed moore length so I added a styrene sheet on it, cut and sanded it. 

 

I added putty and Mr.Surfacer 1000 onto the spinner model to remove the growth rings. Finally I polished it to be very shiny. 

Parts of the prop unit in one mold. 

Casting is very time consuming. Especially when the casting marks must be fixed. When the propellers are in good condition, I will start crafting the rest of the model. 

Another iteration with the front spinners. It will take a long time until I'm happy with the surface quality. My castings has too many tiny bubbles that need to be filled. 

Took fuselage out of the box. First I will fix the panel lines and then will think about the modifications. 

Dry-fitting the spinner and propellers with the engine cowling. The cowling is pretty ugly too so it needs to be fixed.
The front spinners have now the hole for 40mm gun. 

I'm trying to fix the cowling with putty and MRP's Mr.Filler stuff. 

Started to paint the spinners, but one of the front spinners needs to be repainted as I found the surface still not smooth enough. 

Dryfitting 

Cut the other half of the fuselage for lengthening. 

 

I'm using 2,0mm and 2,5mm brass tubes.
