Some areas on the model need to be pre-paintig because they will not be accesable later for the airbrush. These are the deck levels under the bridge and the lower gun deck in the aft superstructure.
By the way when I was using my airbrush anyway I started painting some small details still on their resin runner also. On my last projects I used the AK Interactive grey Primer with very good results. After thoroughly cleaning the model surface with silicone remover I applied a coat of the primer. Even when it´s said the primer can be used by brush or airbrush without any further thinning I think it´s better to dilute it a bit or (because I don´t have the proper dilutant yet) use the airbrush with a bit more pressure.
The primer dries very fast so that I could apply the grey colour soon after. For HMS Indefatigable I chose Tamiya XF-54.
