1August 2, 2023Starting this kit with the diorama and the back wall.
2August 2, 2023I'm not a fan of the texture on the wall itself, it looks a bit too uniform so I want to try to roughen that up to look a bit more realistic.
3August 2, 2023First I primed the whole part using Vallejo Light Ghost Grey.
4August 2, 2023Then masked around the areas that I need to keep smooth/clean.
5August 2, 2023In a technique 'borrowed' from Ma.K, I'm using Mr Surfacer 500 to paint on by hand then using the brush to dab at the primer to roughen it up as it dries.
6August 2, 2023Happy with that 😄, makes the texture look more realistic and less uniform as I'm not able to be that accurate replicating the level of roughness with the Mr Surfacer and brush.
7August 2, 2023Brush painted over the Mr Surfacer with US Desert Sand for the wall colour.
8August 2, 2023Removed the masking and brush painted the panel surrounds and lights Metallic Chrome, I wanted it to look rough so did it with a paint brush and not spraying.
9August 2, 2023Close up of the left hand panel buttons in Fire Red, Light Green & Sea Blue.
10August 5, 2023Lamps painted Yellow. I tried with white as per the kit call outs but it was too close to the Chrome so didn't look too good. Tried transparent yellow first but the brush marks showed up too much so overpainted with 'normal' yellow paint.
11August 5, 2023Masking in place for the door (and a bit of free advertising for Kent Models 😄)
12August 5, 2023Painted with wood (Vallejo Air 71.077) and that's the wall fully painted.
13August 5, 2023Time for the base, primed with Mig One-Shot Sand. Plan is to add actual sand over the top of this so not too worried if it's a bit patchy (and it is!!)
14August 6, 2023Painted the base with scenery (PVA) glue and then sprinkled sand over the top.
15August 7, 2023"Barrels" primed black then painted with Metal Colour Aluminium.
16August 7, 2023Rusted then up a bit.
17August 7, 2023"Barrels" fitted into the base.
18August 13, 2023Built up and then primed the Stormtrooper helmets with Mig One-Shot White.
19August 13, 2023Did the detail painting with Black-Grey, Metallic Steel and used Panzer Dark Grey for the poles.
20August 13, 2023Gloss coated them using Tamiya TS-13.
21August 13, 2023Added all the decals and another coat of gloss to seal.
22August 13, 2023Aged up the ones on the floor with a light directional coat of Middlestone.
23August 13, 2023Fitted the floor Helmets into the base.
24August 18, 2023On to the two helmets on spikes and sprayed the spikes with Panzer Dark Grey (as you can see, usual UK Summer happening outside 😄)
25August 18, 2023Then aged up the helmets, again using Middlestone with directional spraying
26August 18, 2023Using this as the reference photo. I'm not going to cut out the cracks and holes but can make the "rags" hanging down from the helmets, just need some loose weave material.
27August 18, 2023A dig in the first aid box finds some gauzy bandage that will be ideal 🙂
28August 18, 2023Cut two strips ready to colour.
29August 18, 2023Dipped the strips into Agrax Earthshade and now they look better 😎
30August 19, 2023Strips cut down and glued to the underside of the helmets using CA glue.
31August 19, 2023Spikes fitted into the base, used CA glue again for these as they wanted to fall over using normal Tamiya glue and I couldn't hold them upright easily.
32August 19, 2023Decal and the wall added and that's the base complete 🙂
33August 19, 2023On to Mando himself. Started with gluing the two halves of the body together.
34August 19, 2023Quite a lot of the seam needed filling and sanding back and was a bit awkward especially as the surface is "wrinkled" but it turned out OK.
35August 19, 2023Mando body primed with Mig One-Shot Grey.
36August 20, 2023Sprayed the jumpsuit Dark Brown.
37August 20, 2023Hand painted with Medium Grey on the front and Black Grey for the cape around the neck.
38August 21, 2023Parts for the lower left leg primed with Mig One-Shot Grey.
39August 21, 2023Painted the boot Mud Brown and the sole Grey-Black.
40August 21, 2023Leg parts sprayed Mud Brown.
41August 21, 2023Knee armour, Medium Grey and Metallic Steel on the knee rockets.
42August 21, 2023Leg parts sprayed Mahogany brown.
43August 21, 2023Mahogany drybrushing on the mud brown parts gives a nice worn leather effect 😎
44August 21, 2023Left leg assembled.
45August 22, 2023Right leg parts primed with Mig One-Shot Grey
46August 22, 2023Right leg parts sprayed Mud Brown & Black-Grey as before.
47August 22, 2023Right leg "shin guards" sprayed Dark Brown.
48August 22, 2023Mahogany drybrush on the leather parts & Metallic steel on the cartridges. Medium grey behind the holster.
49August 22, 2023Right leg assembled.
50August 22, 2023Beskar parts (plus the visor) primed with Gloss Black.
51August 22, 2023After drying overnight the Beskar parts are all sprayed with Metal Colour Duraluminium.
52August 22, 2023Made a start on the hands. Hand painted the gloves Grey-Back and the fingers Sky Grey for now, trying to paint Yellow over Black would be impossible so lightened them up first. Gun is Metallic Black with a Chrome "stripe" behind the end of the barrel, butt is painted Mud Brown.
53August 23, 2023Hands are done. Just 2 coats of Yellow to do the fingers, the Sky Grey first did the trick 😎. Just a few touch-ups afterwards and painted the Red on the gauntlet rather than using the decal

55August 24, 2023Most of the parts are painted except for the cape and one of the thigh armour pieces so time to start assembly. The jumpsuit had a drybrush with light brown to pick out some highlights and give a little depth.

60August 24, 2023Helmet added. Tip - if you build this kit then glue the helmet to the neck ball as it wobbles around and droops if you don't
61August 24, 2023Had a bit of an oops gluing the helmet as you're adding the visor and the two halves of the helmet, be careful that no glue seeps out like mine did and I ended up with a nasty fingerprint while squeezing everything together. I'll face that side away anyway so no harm done 😎

New kit from Revell that I haven't seen a build for before so here's my attempt. I'm starting with the Diorama first as I have some ideas/techniques that I want to try to make that look a bit less like a plastic kit!
