Death Star Trench Run

Inventory. Not just the Bandai Death Star Attack Set but with two Tie/Tie Advanced kits in the same scale so that I can have the X-1 and two Tie wingmen chasing the X-Wing. Spare Deathstar tiles from earier builds of Bandai kits, these will come in handy.  

Started as per the instructions with the bottom rear set of tiles. I've glued the bases together to strengthen them as it was quite flimsy just clicked together and glueing will make it easier to move around. 

Made an extra back section from some plasticard to allow the base to be extended. 

Now I can add an extra tile on the end. 

Side wall added with an extra tile as well. 

Bottom front set of tiles. I've put the stand holders in the second from left and the far right so the X-Wing will be just about to drop it's torpedos and the Tie Fighters will be in formation chasing him. 

Base assembly finished so everything gets primed with Light Ghost Grey 

Some post-shading with Grey then lightened further with layers of thinned down Medium Grey and Light Blue Grey to give a bit of depth. 

A better view of the paint effect. Needs a coat of clear varnish then some wash but that should do for the base painting. 

Wash, wait, cleanup, repeat..... Wash, wait, cleanup, repeat...... 😄 

While I was waiting I primed the Tie solar collectors with One-Shot black. 

Even after two coats there's some marks in the plastic that still shows through the paint. Should be OK from a distance. 

Finally the wash and cleanup is complete. There's lots of base!! Matt coated so not much more to do on this part.

Only issue I've got is the Exhaust port is open and just shows whatever is underneath. The X-Wing will be firing photon torpedos at my desk 😄 

Cut a square of plastic card and primed it with One-Shot grey 

Using my very handy circle cutter, I masked off some circles to try and represent a pipe in perspective. 

Test fit with a spare tile, that looks as if it'll work. 

Sprayed Black over the masking 

Masking removed - Bullseye!! 

Test fit again to see how it looks painted. Happy with that 😄

Primed the Tie and X-Wing parts with One-Shot Grey 

Tie parts all base coated with Light Blue Grey 

Bit of (messy!) hand painting on the front windows. Hopefully the wash will cover up the worst of it. 

Tie parts glossed and ready for a wash. 

Mixed up a Starship Filth oil wash 

Started on the Tie parts - back to wash, wait, cleanup...... repeat 😉 

Wash on the Tie Fighters complete and cleaned up. All gets a matt coat and the masking is removed. 

Last bit of detail painting. Orange on the blaster tips and metallic red on the engines. 

Tie fighters in formation added to the base. The stand is primed with One-Shot Black and matt coated.  

Tie fighters from another angle. You can see the stand fitted ready for the X-Wing to join the party!  

X-Wing is base coated with White-Grey and glossed so ready for the aftermarket decals I bought from OWModels (etsy.com/uk/shop/OWModels) to use insead of the stickers.

X-Wing gets a Starship Filth wash the same as the Tie Fighters
 

X-Wing assembled. 

R2-D2 gets a coat of Metallic Steel and some French Blue to complete him and we;re nearly done.
