The lovely and wonderful Zaku II v2.0 Char MG kit paired with some CJ Hobbies metal parts, and styrene customizing. Originally was to include a UC recast of the Zaku 1 Sniper resin conversion kit, but parts were cast too small and so wound up customizing with inspiration from the Zaku 1 Sniper as well as the Bugu.

Pour tabs fully cleaned up, let's test fit again to see how things look. Yup, this YJL kit definitely helps tie things ...

Same! So far I've only built the torso of the base model, but I should probably get some pics of the basics for the project, and maybe see if some of the elements I'm using are actually listed in the database.

Cool project ? I didn't realize there were so many variations of the Zaku. I'm working on the Zaku II, the green one.

There's a decent variety of Zaku kits out there, although most of them are in High Grade (HG) or 1/144 scale. There are options for Master Grade 1/100 kits beyond the typical two frames (the standard MS-06 Zaku II with F, J, or S variants, plus a few Premium Bandai variants... And then the High Mobility type MS-06R - Johnny Ridden, Shin Matsunaga, and Tri-Star are the main kits you can pick up).
If you want to go with older designs like I will be for this one, there's a few different ways to go about it, but I'm going with a resin conversion kit. From what I can tell, the inner frame as well as some pieces are used with the resin parts, while most of the plastic outer bits wind up going into your parts box.
One of the biggest places the MS-05L Zaku I Sniper has been featured is in the Gundam Unicorn, during episode 4 of the OVA, where Yonem Kirks shows off that despite it being a twenty year old design at the time it's still a rather potent mobile suit. I'm still undecided as to what colours I'll go with, but thankfully it will be a while before I get to that stage since there's building up the initial kit, a lot of test fitting of resin, rescribing of panel lines where needed, and all the other little nuances one has to do with resin.
Once I fully wake up I'll look into figuring out how to add things to the Scalemates database so I can have the conversion kit, decals, and metal detail up parts added into the project itself, instead of just text.

Whoo, kit's built on the day the last of my safety gear came in. Now to start work on my first bit of resin...

Title of project has been changed, as I'll be coming back to redo the MS-05L Zaku 1 Sniper at some point. I'll order the conversion kit from a more reliable source this time, so the parts fit properly, but I also wanted to keep this project up.
