Trying to do some panel-lining and dirtying up machinery as I go.

Apologies! These photos are correctly oriented on my hard drive... And there don't appear to be any rotation tools here. :|

A little posing fun with the HGUC RX-78-2 that rekindled my fondness for kit building. 😉

Cutting out & applying such tiny water slides!.. I don't recall them being so small! LOL

Looking good!... But so... SHINY. Need some dirt here... And maybe some dings!

Trying to get some decent looking nozzle coloring. Yellow first then blended blues & oranges.

Crud. Feet should be pretty dirty, yes?

Effects Wings Funnel Effects.
A) Be sure you insert the funnel peg with the open (pinhole) end facing out. Once you get it in there it's not easy to remove without damaging that peg.
B) I recommend inserting the launch 'blast' base plug into the blast effect before attempting to insert the thruster trail...

Effects Wings Funnel Effects.
The launch/base blast effect's outer fringes are soft and it can be easy to bend those fine ends inward while trying to insert the end of the long thruster trails into it. Try to line it up and use a slight twisting motion (rolling the thruster trail back & forth) while gently inserting to avoid snagging those blast fringes.

Not only is the funnel peg tight, so the opening for the thruster blast. I had to use the same rolling motion used for the thruster trail on this blast effect to get it onto the pegs.

After having several of these funnel+effect parts continuously fall out of the launcher, while trying to attach the others, moving the model... breathing too close to the model!..
I tried replacing some of the launch base pins with the spares in the pack. 1 actually helped.
For the other 3 I had to gently squeeze them with needlenose pliers where they attach to the launcher. Only do this once to narrow the channel. don't try to make the whole thing smaller by repeating it.
Honestly, if I didn't want the option to repose and remove the effects, gluing them would have saved me a headache. ?

I disliked that the thruster trails looked so uniform, so after they fell out ? I tried gently (but firmly) to change the direction of some.

Thanks, Dash! I also get to a point where I wonder, "Should I stop here?"😅 But that Leynos diorama you did is wonderful! 🤘🙂

Thank you thank you. Yeah, the thing is weathering is to find the right amount (and scale). It can be very tricky.

Album info

First serious build in... decades!
Interest re-sparked when, on a lark, my wife & I picked up 2 HGUC kits at our local Target (RX-78-02 & Char's Zaku II), simply because she had never built a model and decided she wanted to. 🙂

After that I began stalking this kit from Char's Counterattack, because I liked the design. I finally found it in stock and for a reasonable price in the fall of 2021. Begun September 23rd as an off-and-off project and applied top-coat on May 3rd.

Not only a reintroduction and renewed joy in assembly, it was also a reeducation! Nippers were new to me (I was taught to use X-acto knives by my father over 4 decades ago! LOL) and paints were always applied from a small glass jar (or dad's airbrush).

Touches of paints were applied for details and weathering effects via Gundam Markers (GM20, GM152 from the Metallic Set, GM401; GM402, GM404 from the Real Touch Set 1; Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color Dark Gray ) either directly, by brush from pools extracted from the marker. GM400 (also from the Real Touch set), cotton swabs and small torn sponge pieces were used for blending.

Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the results (and very glad I opted for water-slide decals instead of these packaged stickers for the armor's markings (I had applied a few of the silver ones to the frame during the early stages of the build). Pardon the multitude of photos. I've been trying to capture the details as well as the spirit of the kit and feel like my camera isn't presenting everything that I see. 😛
