AREA 88 : "A Plague of Locusts" (T-6 Texan)
1
August 8, 2018What a big box for a couple of REALLY tiny little kits.2
August 8, 2018There's two in the box, but I only need one for this project.3
August 8, 2018Not a lot of parts, but there's one I need that isn't there, so I started cutting some sprue.4
August 8, 2018Morris' T-6G Texan is armed, so I fashion some gun pods to fit underneath the wings. The barrels will be trimmed to fit later.5
August 9, 2018Painted the cockpit green... did you notice I broke the antenna off already and had to use a bit of stretched sprue to replace it?6
September 28, 2018The secret weapon revealed. That’s one tiny little motor...7
September 28, 2018Of course the canopy has some serious sprue gate stress fractures to fix.8
September 28, 2018And, just for fun, I added a decal instrument panel. I don’t know why...9
September 29, 2018Morris really put on some weight... I had to put him on an extreme diet to get him to fit in the cockpit.10
September 29, 2018With a bit of squeezing, he’s in.11
September 30, 2018Masking canopies in 1/144 isn’t fun... especially something as complex as a T-6!12
September 30, 2018Painted aluminum. It’s pretty shiny, so I think I’lol wait a couple of days and try to sand/buff it a bit.13
September 30, 2018Took the scissors to a bit of synthetic sponge... does that look like a locust swarm?14
October 1, 2018Does that look like a swarm of locusts burning? What colour are locusts?15
October 2, 2018A few more adjustments. The smoke cloud is painted, and the locust swarm had a bit more colour added, in line with German standards... 😉16
October 2, 2018That’s some itty bitty soldering. It barely fits in the fuselage.17
October 2, 2018Now we’re getting somewhere...18
October 3, 2018I added guns under the wings, and there we go. All done!19
October 3, 2018Oh, I also did a tiny bit of rigging with the radio wire.20
October 3, 2018The smoke cloud covers the entire back.21
October 3, 2018Working perfectly... the tiny motor spins the prop, and the light looks enough like fire for me.22
October 3, 2018I’m happy. The mini propellor motor experiment is a success!23

October 17, 2018Disaster! The wires broke and I had to disassemble the plane to fix them. It was my own fault, I left them exposed and vulnerable to movement and one finally snapped.32
October 17, 2018New wires soldered on... let’s see about reassembling this troublemaker. I also seem to have lost a wheel in the process.33
October 17, 2018Reassembled, but will need new paint. May as well fix a couple of things with the base while I’m at it I guess...34
October 18, 2018I know most of it will be covered but the base looked out of place next to the other Area 88 1/144 presentations. Besides, it might help the locust representation.35
October 18, 2018At the insistence of the peanut gallery, i’ve added some bright green to the mix... because, despite reality, “all anime locusts are bright green” I guess. It does add some more contrast though, so that’s good.36
October 19, 2018This time, the plane is securely fastened to the support post... no moving wires.37
October 19, 2018Of course, somehow I got black paint overspray... so it needs more aluminum I guess...38
October 23, 2018Ok... I surrender. Let’s start over.39
October 23, 2018Since this is round two, I now know exactly how to put the engine together.40
October 24, 2018Some paint on the engine and in the cockpit...41
October 24, 2018Added the guns underneath. They turned out better this time I think.42
October 24, 2018Pilot re-seated, motor/engine installed and canopy glued in place. Now to mask it.43
November 11, 2018Ok... let's just cut to the chase... all done. 🙂44
