Scharnhorst & Cleveland

Yes, it was a lot of fun. No need to go for complete realism.
We did some changes on the base, looks much better now. I will upload some more pictures later.

Fun little project I did with my nephew.
He decided to build the Scharnhorst and I putCleveland together.
Ironically my kit was easier to build (again).
We had a lot of fun, sadly he decided against painting his ship. As the parts are pre-coloured it still looks very nice. (Flags and decals are still missing on both ships.)
The frame for the vignettes are still missing. At first, I intended to use balsa wood but I can not get it to stick to the polystyrene base. Maybe I will use more of the AK Atlantic Ocean acrylic texture we used for the water to seal the sides of the vignettes. Hopefully that looks good as well. The seagulls were created with air-dry clay from DAS.
Only later I realized that both ships are not exactly waterline and far too much of their hulls are above the water.
But now I think that only adds to their cartoonish charm. 😉
