Hi vin.
If I'm taking photo's of my models at night, I position them on the whitest background possible. A stiff sheet of thin card works very well or a white bedsheet, but beware of creases. I then aim two lights one from either side of the model, if needed one from above as well. I put the camera on a Tripod stand, too keep the camera as still as possible, I use the remote control to take the picture. Sometimes I use tracing paper or a thin white piece of material, in front of lights to soften the light. I also experiment with different coloured background card, but steer clear of dark colours at night. Experiment until you find something you are happy with...

Morning Holly!!!
As much as I like seeing a modellers work area and all the clutter that goes with it, it is a distraction from what the Photographer really wants me to see. This also goes for shadows, creases, seams (like two pieces of material sewn together, or the join between two pieces of card placed next to each other) Reflections are also a common distraction. Pets are a complete no no!!!
