A future project. 1/12 Model Factory Hiro 1973 elf Tyrrell Ford 006. I'm wanting to change it front the Monaco and Belgium versions, with the full bodywork, to either the German, Italian or the Canadian Grand Prix versions. I may have to scratch build the smaller rear cooler for the Ger and Ita races, and obviously for Canada, I'd have to relocate the oil coolers to the rear, and omit the sidepods. Whatever I choose, it'll be a dream build, and a lot of fun. Great looking kit. For my first MFH, I thought I'd go for an F1 car, as no doors or windows. I know they are challenging, but I really want to do this kit justice.

And so I've cracked the seal, onwards and upwards. I've been trying to build other things, but this kit won't let me. 1/12 white metal Hewland FG400 5-speed manual ZF differential.... its just too exciting. Just dry fitting, fettling, drilling, bending and cajoling, sanding and polishing. 1/12 1973 elf Tyrrell Ford 006. Enjoying it so far, with classic grand prix races on in the background for ambiance.

Long day of sanding, drilling and polishing. Luckily it's fun and I have no time limit. This may weigh a bit when finished, all metal and resin. I'm fighting the urge to replace some parts with wire, if I do that, I could be building this for years lol 😆

Crazy detail, that will be lost when the DFV is all buttoned up. Only the Japanese model maker would go to this length. 1/12 Model Factory Hiro Ford Cosworth DFV V8. Thing weighs a ton already, looking good just dry fit tested.

In the newer MFH kits, dealing with F1 cars from 1967-1983, you only get a basic DFV, without all the internals. It's a shame, but it makes them cheaper and easier to build. I'm just going to glue it all in there, as you can't remove anything later. I suspect this kit was designed for garage dioramas, as at one time you could buy a full 1970s garage, equipment and mechanics as kits.

That's it for today, lots of drilling, cleaning, polishing and sanding, and lots more to come. Still only dry fitted, starting to look familiar now though. It's slow work, but it's fun. I'm going to need to invest in some new drill bits.

That's the main engine block, dry sump, cylinder heads and head covers done. Next the oil, water and fuel pumps. As its a dry oil sump, all the pumps are either side under the exhaust systems, to keep everything low and compact for F1 racing. Pump parts are just placed on, as they don't really fit yet, bit more fettling needed.

Tyre weathering test. Just watered down acrylic paint, rubbed off with a bit of water. Scuffed up the tyres and GoodYear logo though. One thing I'm not happy about though, the tyres have a sag in the middle, due to being hollow, and the wheels being turned metal, I'll have to find something suitable to fill the void at some point... tbh, I expected a little bit better from MFH tyres, especially given there price.

1/12 model factory hiro 1973 elf Tyrrell Ford 006. Made a start on the front left wheel. Added the air valve, and anti tyre spin bolts that come in the kit, scratched wheel weights from plasticard. Think it looks ok. Matt black, weathered, with the edges rubbed down to the metal. #classicf1

I'm converting my 006, to Francois Cevert's number 6, second place car from the German Grand Prix. Made a start on the wheels and tyres, added the airvalves, tyre bolts, and scratch built wheel weights. Then weathered them up to look used, at the end of a race. Not quite finished yet, but almost there. Actually fun, intense, but fun.

wow - joining to watch this! Working with racecars & teams a bit these days, particularly the post-race wear & tear part, this is really interesting! Great job so far & I believe this is total fun 👍🏻

Long time since my last post, so WIP, Model Factory Hiro 1/12 1973 elf Tyrrell Ford V8 Cosworth DFV. Wow, never thought I'd even own one of these, nevermind start building one. Tub is bolted and glued together, main lump of the V8 is bonded together, aswell as the gearbox as seperate units. I can start adding details and painting the three main areas as I go. Thinking of building it as either the German or Italian GP versions.
