Thanks Guys, this is my fourth 1/12 F1 car, only the second I've hand painted only using brushes.

Cheers guys for the nice comments, luckily cooler weather today so I've done a bit more on the Lotus 72d, added front disks and brakes, foot pedals and accelerator cable, plus made up the rear wing. Really slowly coming together.

That's it for today, finished the plumbing and the fire extinguisher, nose bracing. The fire extinguisher wire is too long, so ill shorten that a smidge tomorrow. More to come soon. Painted using Vallejo and Lifecolor acrylics, weathered with inks and acrylic washes.

The hardest colour to paint is black, the second hardest colour to paint is gloss black. This being the UK in summer it's hot as shit, and bits are everywhere, so as Bob Ross says, "there are no disasters, only happy accidents" :-D
So therefore any bits in the paintwork are our famous fat blue bottle flies, dead splattered ones.

Decals...... along with seat belts, my favourite part of building F1 cars ...... not. Luckily I managed to get the JPS tobacco livery before they became unbelievably hard to find. I was at one point doing this as a 73 car, but I've changed my mind and I'm doing the British GP 72 winner.

First decals on, looking pretty. A mix of Tabu and Tamiya. 1/12 Tamiya JPS Lotus 72d 1972. All painted by hand using Vallejo and Lifecolor, Scale 75 acrylics, weathered with sepia ink and watered down acrylic washes. Painted in a 1970s Verlinden style, actually looks like it has dead flies on it in some places because of dust and lint in the air.

Well, that's enough for today. I have no idea if this looks good or not, I'm gold blind, I hate painting it. One wheel down. Three more to go., I guess.

Two wheels done, two to go. That's pretty much it for one or two weeks on this. Off to try and escape the heat. Back soon.

Weathered seat is in... added gear shift lever. I hate seat belts, I'm putting them off. Still need to add rear deck details, fuel pump, fuel filler cap, fuel tank breather pipes, electrical wiring, engine kill pullswitch, steering wheel, intrument panel, extra radiator detail and then this bit is done. Tip for Tamiya seat belts fraying and showing white, paint the edges whatever colour the main belt is.

Finally starting to wrap up the 1/12 Tamiya JPS Lotus 72d. Adding decal pinstripes and sponsors stickers, tyre decals, still have cockpit details to do, instrument dials, wiring, engine wiring and plumbing, steering wheel and cockpit surround. The slog is almost over.

Not my favourite time, lining up all the pipes, locating tab and wires. Hopefully I've made it true and not on the piss. Luckily this is just a dry run to check the alignment. That's it for today though, I'll join her up tomorrow.

Not a fun part, seatbelts are in. Bit more tidying up, then I can join it to the engine. 1/12 Tamiya John Player Special Lotus 72d. Painted with vallejo and Lifecolor acrylics, weathered with sepia ink and watered down acrylic washes.

That's it for today, body and engine are joined now forever. Only nose decals, cockpit surround paint and decals, airbox paint and decals a bit of tidy up and then that's it I think.... ?

1/12 Tamiya John Player Special, Lotus 72d, Ford Cosworth DFV V8, 1972, British Grand Prix winner, Emerson Fittipaldi (Bra).
FINISHED, basically, in about five months. I laid the foundations last year, but started building in March. Bought the kit in November 2013 for about £68, before the prices got silly. Got to be a couple of thousand hours work, easy. Personal project to prove I could build and paint a 1/12 Tamiya F1 kit, the way they did back then, using only brushes to paint. Job done. Had a blast.
