Why wasn't I informed of this project being under way?! Luckily, I scan Uwe's wall every so often to snoop on what he's up to. I've been thinking about this one as well. Great to have a step-by-step guide along the way.

Thanks guys - started this one this time last year, so it's been moving slowly! Of course just after I started it special hobby released a new kit, so I probably could have saved the rescribing - but it was a good learning experience. Still some way to go on this though, including some changes to the canopy glazing.

Following. Special Hobby has a new Ar 196??? Or were you thinking about the Sword kit?

Thanks Alec - you're right, I must have been thinking of the Sword kit (I knew it was eastern European and started with S!)

NP. Got me excited there for a minute. The Sword kit is apparently a bear to build, so the old Heller kit is still pretty good, raised panels and all.

Well there you go - newer isn't always better! Might be a good thing I stuck with the Revell kit, particularly as I'm building a comic book representation anyway...

That was my reasoning… it even kept me from rescribing the panel lines. 😉
I can't wait to see what Uwe's going to come up with here.

Nearing the end, Greg - a bit more masking and then the final paint

Thanks Torsten. Finally got around to finishing this one (the rigging on the floats held me up) and taking the final photos.

Lovely! But why have you left the cowling and prop unpainted? 😉 😛

Thanks Lukasz - always good when the cowling and prop boss only need to be grey! The propeller blades have been painted though 😉. Unfortunately I had to paint them because the kit plastic was a different shade of grey to the resin cowling!

Album info
This is the EFSR (European Foundation for Scientific Research) Ar-190 floatplane from the Tintin book The Shooting Star. Its based on the Revell 172 kit with an Eduard photo-etch set and a Quickboost cowling. As it is meant to be a civillian aircraft I've also tried to demilitarise it by getting rid of hard points and guns.
