AREA 88 : "Break the Big Leg" (F-4E Phantom II)

2September 18, 2018One thing I’ve noticed about the Platz sprues is that you can see which ones F-Toys intended to be painted and packaged and which were for internal use only.
3October 12, 2018Let’s start with the cockpit... painted in grey.
4October 12, 2018No one sees the seam line down the middle of the canopy, right? RIGHT!? No... one...
5October 12, 2018Painted and assembled the cockpit tub. It’ll be filled with pilots and covered under a thick canopy anyway, so it’s just the hint of an F-4E cockpit.
6October 15, 2018Time to paint the pilots! Pretty rough, but they look enough like Shin and Warren to me.
7October 15, 2018Luckily, they fit in the cockpit. I hope they don’t hit their heads on the canopy.
8October 16, 2018Alright, time for a few LEDs... nothing fancy, just wired in.

14April 11, 2019And now assembled... now what? Paint I guess...
15April 11, 2019So... grey.... on the bottom... I think. Should I have pre-shaded the panel lines?
16December 18, 2018First coat of paint on the topside. I’m not sure the black pre-shading will do any good once it’s all said and done.

20April 7, 2019Now for the engines. A little metallic paint should do the trick.
21April 7, 2019Hmm... a few stray sparkles. How much do I care about that?
22April 9, 2019With a coat of Future and some weathering, the sparkles are all gone. Whew!
23April 10, 2019Mounted on the base. Lights still work.
24April 10, 2019A few decals to complete the look.
25April 10, 2019All done. Now just waiting on the B-1 to join.
