F-89D Scorpion WIP

This is what she should look like in the end! 

The parts on one of the sprues. Nice silvery/aluminum shade. That will change though 😉 

The wheels and exhaust parts ready for painting Revell 91 Steel. 

The painted parts. Learned something by mistake. If I airbrush these parts until the paint almost becomes fluid, it gets a nice shine. 

Weight added to the nose to prevent tailsitting. 

Airbrushed Revell 9 Anthracite the cockpit parts & nosecone. Could not mask the wheels properly. Had to do them by brush 🙁 

Revell 57 Grey for the cockpit itself, seats, canopy mount & inner walls. 

Finished the seats with Revell 67 Greenish Grey, Vallejo Model Air Red & White. Undercarriage and turbine with Revell 90 Silver. Tried the trick with the extra paint on the turbine and nearly drowned the fanblades.... 

Underwing fueltanks & rocketpods primed matt black (Ammo 2005) 

The turbineblades were too shiny. Added a deep brown line wash (Ammo 1618). Now it's less shiny and the fanblades are more pronounced. 

Used the same brown wash on the lower gear. I like the contrast better than on the top gear, which isn't done yet. 

Fuselage joined. There will be some minor filling and sanding. I hate filling and sanding 🙁 

The underside's in as well. 

Glued both wing halves together. Later noticed there were tiny gaps on the leading edges. Tried to fill them with Tamiya extra thin cement. Hoping for a good result 😉 

Both wingtip tanks glued. Fit seems ok. Glued the canopy to its mount & masked both for painting. Mind the gap at the back of the canopy.... Need to think of something 🙁 

Wings glued on. Dry fit of tail, aileron, wingtip tanks & windscreen/canopy 

Masked the cockpit itself. Hope I did a good job for a first time. 

Glare shield airbrushed Revell 302 Satin Black. Tail & wingtips airbrushed in grey primer Ammo 2002 

Tail & wingtips airbrushed Vallejo White. This should bring out the red more.... 

Tail & wingtips airbrushed Vallejo Red. 

Looks like the white 'primer' did the trick. 

I'm starting to dislike my airbrush. It's mercilessly showing my bad modelling skills. In the old days I'd just plaster this with red paint from a brush.... 

Masked the red parts and primed Alclad gloss black. Tempted to rip off the masks and leave her like this :-0 

As I don't have a lacquer Aluminium paint, I decided to do the highlights first, using Alclad Duraluminum. Next step is the regular aluminum, using Aqua Revell 99  

After masking airbrushed the rest with Revell 99 Aluminium. 

After removing the masks, the colours seem ok. I like the contrast between de alloys and the red.... But some of the alclad came off. Must try to repair this 🙁 

Touched up the duraluminum. Not perfect though. I'm thinking this could become a nice weathering practice.... 

Added windscreen, canopy & tailsection 

The Iron back of the engine & the aluminun are too much alike. Thinking about adding some Alclad Burnt Iron for some more contrast 

For the same reason sprayed some Jet Exhaust (A.Mig-8208) on the exhaust nozzle & protection plates 

Damn. Even with the weight and extra weight in the nosecone, she's still a tailsitter! 

Added some weight to the front of the rocketpods. Saved! 

'Primed' the edges and rockets in white, for further painting. 

Painted the rim with Revell 310 Lufthansa Yellow. 

Rockets painted red (Revell 330 Fiery Red). Pods need a little touch up around the edges, to get rid of the excess white. A little black wash between the rockets wouldn't hurt either. 

Fainted the lady's behind with Burnt Iron 😉 

Glued the exhausts, deflection plates & main gear hatches. 

Glued the rocketpods and started decalling. Man these things are so thick, the panellines have a hard time getting through. 

Out of frustration decided to unmask the canopy, which added to the frustration. There's still some masking tape on the inside #imanidiot 

After removing the internal masking & reglueing the canopy, she's becoming a lovely lady again. 

My anti-glare paint is a bit smallish. Tried to correct this with the decal. Not a good idea, scrapped. 

After a lot of Decal Soft and brushing, this decal is finally getting into the panel lines. 

Same here. 

The larger decals are in place.
