I've only got one good set of decals. I'll display one with fairings and one as a chassis. I bought 5 of these in the last couple of years trying to find a good one. 25 years ago, a Tamiya fzr was the last model I worked on before having a very long break from kits.

Oh those kits are soooo fun! Now if they would just make a more recent VFR kit!

Chassis-only version finished. The decals in this kit were completely ruined, couldn't salvage any of them unfortunately.

you just scan them in with a standard scanner, and then print them out on the decal paper, laquer them, let them dry and cut them out, i've never done it either but apparently it's quite simple

or you could just load the decal paper into a colour photocopier? https://ebay.co.uk/itm/25432..pid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524

1st coat of clear on. Decals were terrifying but went on ok-ish. Not perfect but they are 25 years old. I'm pleased they worked at all.

ah well done rod, looking good! you've probably thought of this... why not mix up the exact shade of paint to fill in the gaps where the decals were buggas?

I thought about mixing exact shades, then I just used tamiya red and blue off the jar instead. There's only a few tiny blemishes. The few bad spots in the pic are actually shine on the wet clear.

I sold 3. I kept the best and the worst one. The worst one was a box of parts rattling around off the sprues and mouldy decals.

I use Mr hobby super clear, mostly from a spray can. Mr color GX100 is the same stuff in a jar.
Or I use SMS 2K clear. Both are excellent products.

if you have the same issue, there are companies that can make the decals again for you. price depends of course on how much work it takes. sometimes is even possible to find somebody who already made the. I manage to get a remade copy of the decals of a model that is out of sale for very very long time for example.
