Picture 21, those are not contact actuators, that is supposed to be a spinner that arms the torpedo at a certain distance clearing the vehicle

Hey Dave, as far as my searching went with regards to german torpedo's, the torpedo under this beast is a G7a, en this type was as wel as contact or magnetic actuated:

There is a small screw at the tip that could be the mechanism to arm the torpedo.

Well lookie there! I stand corrected, and yes, that is the arming spinner at the very front. You do not want an armed torpedo when you might be hitting those whiskers on the sea floor

It looks like the torpedo is "armed" as the whiskers are already standing out.

Here is a drawing from an armed one, that resembles the nose from the kit (the thing a the tip is missing, just to not to loose it), the vanes should be added

no, on the contrary, it made me see things that I didn't notice before. but this kind had a dual trigger, that could be chosen by the captain. Magnetic (failure prone in the beginning) and contact. In later types, as the issues with the magnetic sensors were resolved, or the acoustic ones were used, these "contact hammers" disappeared from the torpedo's...

It's still weird that they would include an obsolete torpedo as the G7a with this kit and not the G7e/T3, which would have been fully operational at that time... or the acoustic homing torpedo

That IS interesting - they must have had some poor researchers when designing this kit.
