Probe Droid
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/4/3/5/692435-27411-72-pristine.jpg)
Started by drilling some holes for the wiring and building a conduit
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/4/3/6/692436-27411-78-pristine.jpg)
Glued the LED in place. Note the rookie mistake (the battery box needs to be hidden in the main body, so its wires had to be cut after this)
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/4/3/7/692437-27411-49-pristine.jpg)
Conduit added to the head base plate
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/4/3/8/692438-27411-66-pristine.jpg)
Top of the baseplate
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/4/3/9/692439-27411-84-pristine.jpg)
Head pieces glued and filled/sanded
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/4/4/0/692440-27411-68-pristine.jpg)
Milliput used to make a more positive location for joining the top and bottom of the body. Rare earth magnets (they come with the lighting kit) glued in place - the parts need to come apart to allow access to the batteries and switch
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/4/1/692441-27411-38-pristine.jpg)
Some styrene rod and details added to the blaster part and hole drilled in the body top to locate it
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/4/2/692442-27411-31-pristine.jpg)
I decided the arms need to look like they should rotate so I cut a set of discs to glue them onto
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/4/3/692443-27411-66-pristine.jpg)
Discs detailed with holes around the circumference and set into recesses milled into the body
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/4/4/4/692444-27411-68-pristine.jpg)
Arms cleaned up and with brass tube replacing all of the pistons, and pins glued into the ends
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/4/4/5/692445-27411-49-pristine.jpg)
Test fit of all of the parts put together
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/4/4/6/692446-27411-57-pristine.jpg)
I eventually found some connectors small enough to fit, soldered them on and tested it
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/4/4/7/692447-27411-10-pristine.jpg)
Test with the battery box hidden in the body
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/4/4/8/693448-27411-37-720.jpg)
Painting completed for main body and arms and rubber hoses added to underside of body
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/8/8/6/700886-27411-20-720.jpg)
Milled out recesses for the cabochon eyes as I didn't like the way they looked sitting flush. I also rounded the eye bases into a more circular shape
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/8/8/7/700887-27411-58-720.jpg)
Also milled out a recess for the small eye which was more oblong than circular - it will be replaced by a 6mm cabochon which is on order
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/9/0/3/700903-27411-97-720.jpg)
Aerials added and everything primed.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/1/5/4/701154-27411-97-720.jpg)
All the kit pieces painted now
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/1/5/5/701155-27411-55-720.jpg)
And the light still works!

This is the probe droid seen at the start of The Empire Strikes Back, made using the JPG kit (mastered by Nick Sagan) with the Tirydium Models lighting kit - my first try at lighting a model.
